Vocal Art Ensemble made a big success in Barcelona!

Invited to represent Sweden at the World Symposium on Choral Music, the choir made 4 highly acclaimed concerts under title "A Triumph to Exist".

In a rich programme VAE made two world premieres: "Hands" by the american composer Jocelyn Hagen and "A Triumph to Exist" by Jan Yngwe. The choir received standing ovations in Eglise de S:a Maria del Pi and in front of an audience of 2400 persons in the sold out concert hall "Pau Casals".

This fall the Pro Musica Chamber Choir is celebrating its 35th anniversary. The choir takes the opportunity to change its name to VOCAL ART ENSEMBLE (of Sweden) to better reflect what it does.

In the words of the conductor, Jan Yngwe; "It feels fresh and gives a soaring feeling — inspiring to wear a "new costume" that better suits the present nature of the choir, an international and beautiful sounding name with an aim forward to the future."

The choir will give its first concert under the new name, Vocal Art Ensemble (of Sweden) in connection with the Swedish Choir Directors Convention in Gothenburg, Friday the 18th of October at 11.00 PM at Vasakyrkan.

The PRO MUSICA CHAMBER CHOIR are invited as representatives of the Swedish choral tradition to give concerts in Hong Kong, as well as to participate in a great international choir festival, featuring choirs from all over the world in Guangzhou, with gala concerts, the Grand Prix competition and concluding the stay with a concert at the famous Guangzhou Opera House together with the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra "Highlights of the classic, popular choral-symphonic repertoire". The choir will also appear in the CCTV (Chinese State Television).

With us on the trip, we bring a magnificent, varied program with breadth and depth, entitled "Highlights to China". In addition to Swedish music (by composers like Stenhammar and Sven-David Sandström), music by Latvian composer Erik Esenvalds ("Stars" featuring 30 crystal glasses), Filipino composer John August Pamintuan, Sidelnikov (Russia), Samual Barber, Maurice Ravel, and of couse some Chinses choral music (Jasmine Flowers) will be performed.

Pro Musica's new concert program Beyond Horizon with dazzling sounds from Cuba, Venezuela and the Philippines has become a great success wherever performed! A large and very enthusiastic audience in S:t Jacob's Church in Stockholm, a sold-out performance in Trosa Stad's Church and now recently in Vasa Church in Gothenburg, where the concert was also recorded by the Swedish Radio.

The successful four Christmas concerts last year together with Swedish opera singer, Loa Falkman, have now resulted in a new collaboration on the Sony label, where Loa Falkman sings Evert Taube together with different artists.

Jan Yngwe has arranged ‘Nocturne’ for Pro Musica Chamber Choir, Lars Halapi, guitar and Loa Falkman.

The recording was done March 12th and the release is expected in early June.

Pro Musica has been invited to China as special guest ensemble 3-14 November, where they will be giving their own concerts in e g Hong Kong as well as participating in 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in Guangzhou (Canton).

On Saturday July 23rd, at 3.00 PM, Swedish Radio P2 will broadcast "Magnifikt och Mahlerskt" with the Pro Musica Chamber Choir. The broadcast is a live recording of the performance at Vasakyrkan, Göteborg, the 15th of December 2010.

Pro Musica travels to Scotland on June 3rd for a short tour. The choir will be performing the "Songs Unlimited" program at Old St Paul's Church and St Giles' Cathedral in Edinburgh and at The Chapel of St Salvator in St Andrews.

Pro Musica Chamber Choir can now together with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra be seen and heard in the new movie "Till det som är vackert" which is coming up in movie theaters all over the country on October 22nd.
In this film (directed by Lisa Langseth) with eg Samuel Fröler in a leading role, Pro Musica Chamber Choir and Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra perform parts from Mozart's Requiem, which is also the lead music theme in the film.

The applause would never end when the large audience in Domkyrkan in Gothenburg showed its appreciation after the performance of Alfred Schnittke's Requiem on Saturday November 14th. Singers as well as musicians and audience were noticeably moved after this musical explosion. A magical concert according to many voices in the audience!

On request from many, the choir will now encore the performance on Saturday March 20th in Bethlehemskyrkan in Gothenburg. Don't miss it!

Pro Musica Chamber Choir has been participating in a film recording together with Gothenburg Symphonic Orchestra. Pro Musica and GSO will perform parts of Mozart Requiem in the new movie "Den Älskade" (The Beloved) by Lisa Langseth. The recording will take place at the Gothenburg Concert Hall, the leading part played by Samuel Fröhler.

Pro Musica Chamber Choir recently returned from a successful concert tour in Italy. Together with their conductor, Jan Yngwe, they performed as international guest ensemble in the highly appreciated choral series in Bosco Chiesanuova as well as in the magnificent San Giorgio basilica in Verona. The concerts, under the title 'Songs Unlimited' were received with standing ovations and the large audience of the basilica, filled to the last seat, kept calling for encores over and over. This was the choir's 4th tour to Italy out of around 30 international concert tours.

The director, Jan Yngwe, was recently awarded Västra Götaland's culture scholarship for his international efforts for Swedish music and especially Swedish choral music.
